| August 4 Duke's Tip of the Week Off- Season Training For all but the Olympic Teams this is the off-season. Many athletes stay completely away from the pool, but this does not mean that you cannot train. I suggest doing some cross-training for variety and fun: running, biking, hiking, rollerblading, canoeing, kayaking, swimming in a lake or ocean, etc. Training can also incorporate flexibility exercises, yoga, pilates, tai chi, etc. all of which will improve not only flexibility but body awareness and alignment. Finally, one of the keys to all sports is balance and any training you can do to work on this skill is helpful. Often simply doing other sports and learning how to stay balanced through movement in that sport is helpful. The important thing is to relax and get away, but stay active and fit! |
